Benzoic acid and sodium benzoate,widely used as food preservative,have some destructive effect on the cytoplasm of microorganisms as well as human cells [1].Large amount of benzoic acid is released with the wastewater from food processing; the water and land will be polluted as Lius report [2].Therefore,it is necessary to remove them from water.But there havent been any reports about their treatment in water.Hydrotalcite and its calcined products,with high efficiency of anion adsorption and exchange and low cost,are regarded as the primary benzoic acid adsorbent [3].Their use as adsorbents and anion exchangers for water purification is a promising research frontier in the application of environmental restoration [4].In this paper,the adsorption ability of hydrotalcite and its calcined products for benzoic acid are studied.The investigated factors are shown as follows,the molar ratio of Mg/Al,environmental pH,adsorbate concentration,adsorbent quantity,environment temperature and adsorptive time.Most attention was paid to the adsorption of benzoic acid.
