This study aimed to explore the factors motivating and impacting the novice teachers in ESL course preparation.“The novice teachers in ESL courses” in this study referred to those of science major background who started to engage in the postgraduate-level ESL course in a prestigious university in P.R.China.A semi-structured interview was conducted to three participating teachers and the in-depth qualitative data was gathered and examined with Nvivo 20.0.The study results showed that technology might not play as much as the human factor in the preparation stage.Despite efforts consorting to internet resources and online discussion forums in course designing,novice teachers placed the higher value on the feedback from ESL teachers,and experienced peers and the Non-ESL peers.
