Two aerobic, Gram-negative, rod-shaped, non-motile and non-spore-forming bacteria, strains NH6-24T and Za3-11, were respectively isolated from the offshore surface seawater of South China Sea (18°06′56 N, 110°45′38″ E, southeast of Hainan Island) and East China Sea (29°30′55″ N, 122°36′44″ E, south of the estuary of the Yangtze River).Growth of the two isolates occurred at 14-44 ℃ (optimun 37-40 ℃) and pH 6.0-8.5 (optimum pH 7.0-7.5).The tolerance ranges of sea salt were 0.5-10% (w/v) (optimum 1-2.5%) for strain NH6-24T and 0-12% (w/v) (optimum 0.5-4.5%) for strain Za3-11.Both strains could grow in the absence of NaCl.
