Our past research found that female SD rat would appear endocrine and metabolism problem under continuous light situation;and electro-acupuncture can preserve blood glucose homeostasis on the rats.Adiponectin is a protein hormone that modulates a number of metabolic processes, involved in the control of fat metabolism and insulin sensitivity, with direct anti-diabetic, anti-atherogenic and anti-inflammatory activities.As part of our project, in this study, we observed the female rats serous adiponectin levels after continuous light for 16 weeks (L/L group) and effect of 2Hz/3 mA electro-acupuncture (EA) at acupoints of ST 36, SP 6 (L/L+ EA group) on them.We treated them from the 12th weeks to the 16th weeks during the continuous light, three times every week.Our results showed that: 1) continuous light can reduce the adiponectin levels in the rats serum markedly (control group vs.L/L group: 7.84 ±1.21μg/ml vs.3.15±0.312μg/ml;p =0.00018);2) EA can obviously elevate the serous adiponectin levels in the continuous light rats (L/L group vs.L/L + EA group: 3.15±0.312μg/ml vs.6.07±0.60μg/ml;p=0.02477);And 3) L/L + EA group have no statistical difference comparing with control group (p =0.14828).The results indicate that EA can improve the serous adiponectin level on the female SD rat constructively, and it may be one of the most important reasons for stabilizing blood glucose level.
