This paper presents a small part of a larger interdisciplinary study that investigates brain activity (using ERP methodology) of high school students when solving mathematical problems of different types.The study-design links mathematics education research (for example, factors of general and mathematical giftedness and factor of excelling in mathematics) with neurocognitive studies.In this paper we present a comparative analysis of brain activity associated with language (lexical decision task) and mathematical (solving mathematical problems) processing among mathematically gifted adolescents.
