Breast MRI has become an integral and necessary component of any breast imaging practice.Over the past 2 decades,tremendous advances have been made in the field of magnetic resonance (MR) imaging of the breast-from early experience, prior to use of contrast agents, that suggested that MR imaging had little to offer as a breast imaging method, to more recent experience that has demonstrated not only that breast cancer can be visualized on MR images but also that mammographically and clinically occult breast cancer can be detected on MR images.The basic strength of breast MRI lies in the early detection of cancer that is occult on conventional imaging such as mammography and sonography.
