Alkylated polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(APAHs),which are mainly originated from petrogenic sources, comprise up to 98 %of the total PAH fraction of crudeoil and after spills in the aquatic environment theproportion of alkyl-PAHs in sediments remains high(up to 70 %of the total PAH fractio[1].Alkylatedphenanthrenes account for 13 %of the total aromaticfraction in crude oils. Moreover, alkylatedphenanthrenes are persistent and frequently moretoxic than other alkylated PAHs of lower rings butstudies of alkylated phenanthrenes are scarce[2].Conclusively,alkylated phenanthrenes have thepriority to develop an effective elimination andremediation methods.
