In this work, the competitive adsorption of n-eicosane and n-triacontane binary mixtures dissolved in dried iso-octane(2,2,4-trimethylpentane)was chosen as model compounds and studied under vapor and liquid conditions by performing breakthrough experiments over ZSM-12 pellets.Adsorption capacity of adsorbent and selectivity of mixture components were calculated according to their eluting concentration breakthrough profiles.A remarkably different adsorption behavior was observed for n-eicosane and n-triacontane under vapor and liquid phase conditions: n-triacontane was overwhelmingly preferentially adsorbed over n-eicosane on ZSM-12 at vapor phase conditions; on the contrary n-eicosane and n-triacontane molecules were equally adsorbed on ZSM-12 at liquid phase conditions,as a result, competitive adsorption occurs in a non-selective way.
