Objective To determine the safety and efficacy of short-term intensive atorvastatin therapy among Chinese patients with acute coronary syndrome. Methods A total of 235 patients with acute coronary syndrome were (randomly) assigned to atorvastatin intensive therapy group (n=85) or conventional therapy group (n=150).The intensive group was given 80 mg atorvastatin each night and the conventional group was given 20 mg atorvastatin each night. The primary end points focused on safety, including GPT, GOT, CK, CK-MB and Cr.The secondary end points focused on efficacy, including TC, TG, LDL-C and HDL-C.The duration of follow-up is 1 month; however, data at 1 week and 1 month were both analyzed.
