  Nano-and molecular electronics investigate charge transport through nano-scale heterojunction sin the form of metal-X-metal junctions,where X represents metallic,semiconductive or molecular entities.Employing the tip of a scanning tunnelling microscopy(STM)as one of the metal electrodes,in-situ construction of the nanojunctions followed by measurement of the conductance through the nanojunctions can be realized through precise control of the tip motion.
