The Paddy Field Dam (PFD) is a flood mitigation measure using paddy fields with runoff control devices installed in drainage boxes of paddy field plots to reinforce the flood control function.Although the numerical simulation model that we constructed quantified the effect of the flood mitigation function of the PFD,its effectiveness had not been proven by actual rainfall events.This study,therefore,examines the effect of PFD in the case of the heavy rainfall events occurred in July,2011 (precipitation of 231mm/2 days)in the three proiect sites (Shirone,Mitsuke and Shinsai,) where the PFD has been undertaken.
