Well-controlled poly(4-vinylpyridine) (P4VP) has been successfully achieved via zero-valent copper mediated radical polymerization without any additional ligand by utilizing a fluoroalcohol,1,1,1,3,3,3-Hexafluoro-2-propanol (HFIP) as a solvent,which can strongly interact with 4VP by hydrogen bonding.Meanwhile,the hydrogen bonding had profound impacts on the stereoregulation during polymerization,enabling P4VP with a highly syndiotactic (60.2 %) and gave rise to a higher glass transition temperature of P4VP.
