According to the magnitude of water erosion problems in the Sehoul area; located at the north west of Morocco; and the complexity of analysing and quantifying such natural phenomenon, the 7Be technique appears to be an interesting tool to establish, rapidly and without heavy infrastructure,an estimate of this phenomenon. The aim of this study consists to use the 7Be technique to assess soil loss and help farmers in the selection of techniques to be adopted in studying the effectiveness of different methods of conservations.Three representative agricultural fields, named vine monoculture, bean and barely/wheat; were selected to investigate the soil degradation required by soil managers in this region. The fields differ in their characteristics (slope length, soil texture, tillage and cultural practices). The 7Be inventory was established by using Gamma spectrometry, whereas the erosion rates were determined by applying the conversion models. The results obtained from this study show erosion rates of about 13.9 t ha-1,3.3 t ha-1 and 1.7 t ha-1 for agricultural sites; wheat / barley rotation, vine monoculture and bean in a field neglected for 15 years; respectively. The 7Be technique verified the effectiveness of agricultural rotation used by farmers.
