　　Human macrophages are involved in the foam cell formation, early stage of atherosclerosis, by taking up oxidized low-density lipoprotein (oxidized LDL).Oxidized LDL has been reported to regulate several maerophage gene expressions.We previously found that oxidized LDL up-regulates the expression of mRNA of GM2 ganglioside activator protein in human monocyte-derived macrophages by the differential display technique.Recent study found that GM2 ganglioside activator protein functions as a general glycosphingolipid transporter.
