Hepatic steatosis is strongly associated with insulin resistance and metabolic complications of obesity.However,the mechanisms underlying intrahepatic triglyceride (TG) accumulation and its relationship to lipid-induced toxic metabolic effects (“lipotoxicity”) remain unclear.Protection against lipotoxicity clearly requires a carefully regulated balance between TG synthesis and hydrolysis.
