Additive manufacturing(AM)has made significant progress towards the fabrication of biomaterials and tissue engineering constructs.Among AM techniques, three dimensional printing(3DPP)is suitable for fabrication of bone related prosthetic devices, while three dimensional plotting(3DPL)is based on extrusion of biopolymers to create artificial tissues.3D printing is used to create custom-made implants,patient-specific instrumentation, and to regenerate tissues,in particular bone and cartilage. The major limiting factors for bioprinting include the lack of printing techniques with optimal printing resolution and materials with ideal mechanical strengths while maintaining cellular functionality. In the present report,we aim to develop a better understanding of the science and engineering aspects of the principle of 3DP techniques and it prospect in tissue engineering.
