Alginate-c5-mannuronan-epimerase gene which is typically called algG gene can convert mannuronate to guluronate and thus determine the M/G ratio of alginate.Current knowlege about the genes involved in the alginate biosynthesis primarily comes from bacterial systems mainly on genera Pseudomonas and Azotobacter.
