A series of interesting marine invertebrates, such as sponge and sea urchin were collected off the coast of King Geroge Island, Great Wall Station, China.In our preliminary studies on the chemical constituents from these marine organisms, the extract of a sea urchin identified as Sterechinus sp.was found to display significant inhibitor effects on superoxide anion generation (IC50 =5.81 g/ml) and elastase release (IC50 =6.78 g/ml).Moreover, the extract from sponge Stylissa sp., was also found to show significant inhibitor effects on superoxide anion generation (IC50 =4.00 g/ml) and elastase release (IC50 =3.76 g/ml).The active components for these interesting extracts will be studied in the future.
