  Purpose: To discover the inhibitory effect of newly synthesed small molecule compound DC 120 on nasopharyngeal carcinoma cancer stem cells, illustrate the mechanism of it.Method: human nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) cells were flow-sorted into side population (SP) and non-SP population.Suspension culture and colony formation assay were used to evaluate the self-renewal ability, nude mice tumor xenografts were used to evaluate the tumorigenicity.Western blot analysis was used to detect the corresponding protein levels.Results & Conclusion:We demonstrated that DC120, a 2-pyrimidyl-5-amidoth iazole compound based on the ATP binding site of AKT,dramatically depleted the SP fraction and inhibited SP cells sphere-forming ability in vitro via the induction of apoptosis.
