Macrophages are key regulators of both innate and adaptive immunity, and essential for the initiation of pathogen recognition as well as their resolution due to their ability to induce inflammation, and they are capable of casing significant tissue damages.Macrophages can be differentiated into classically activated macrophages (M1) or alternatively activated macrophages (M2) in response to microbial stimuli and/or cytokine signal.
