Considerable evidence exists that use of non-selective (eg, diclofenac) and cyclooxygenase (COX)-2 selective (eg, celecoxib) NSAIDs is associated with increased cardiovascular (CV) risk.Although the mechanism of the increased CV risk associated with NSAIDs is incompletely understood the prevailing view is that the inhibitory selectivity of NSAIDs towards COX-1 and COX-2 accounts for the CV toxicity.
