Known as one of the cleanestenergyprofile country in the world,Brazil has its energy production focused almost entirely on large bulk generation plants, considerably far from the consumptionscenters.Taking a glance at the profile of some European nations with relevant distributed generation (DG) participation, such as Germany, and also considering the Brazilian solar incidence data,it is easy to conclude that there are many opportunities for the PV market growth. The main focus of this report is to provide an updated overview on the Brazilian PV DG market, approaching subjects like the regulation advances, economicfeasibilityand the R&D projects being developed.Albeit the large potential in Brazil for the PV business, some barriers are still present and brakingthe full PV market expansion. The main goal of this workis to summarize some public data and deliver a general review about these restraints taking into account the Brazilian contextas well as the worldwide PV market situation. In order to make the analysis clearer, the subject is divided into three main scopes, namely: Technical barriers,Regulatory barriers and Economical barriers.Although the word"barrier"may sound at a first glance pejorative, again the purpose here is to inform stakeholders about the main challenges of the Brazilian PV market.
