Metal Nanoparticles for Influenced Light Absorption in Organic Film Solar Cells

  We present a plasmonic nanostructure design by embedding a layer of periodic metallic nanoparticles(NPs)in buffer layer and active layer for organic solar cells(OSCs),respectively.Based on the finite element method(FEM),the physical mechanism of sphere and cube metallic NPs are investigated that influence the absorption efficiency of OSCs.Theoretical results show that the very strong near field around metallic NPs due to Localized Surface Plasmonic Resonance(LSPR)mainly distributes laterally along the buffer layer rather than vertically into the active layer,leading to decrease of light absorption in the active layer.Meanwhile,the influence of factors such as the spacing between neighboring NPs,the particle size and the incidence angles were studied with metallic NPs in the buffer layer and active layer.The plasmonic resonance of the particles has a wideband influence on the absorption,and an intense interaction between plasmonic enhancement and the absorption characteristics of the active layer material of OSCs were observed.
