In lipophilicity measurement of ionized compounds by RP-HPLC,n-octanol is often added as a weak "masking agent" in the mobile phase to obtain a better correlation between logP and logk,while the exact mechanism of n-octanol is still unclear [1,2].Normally,n-octanol is presented when the analytes are ionizable in the mobile phase.There was little research about the effect of n-octanol on the retention behavior of neutral compounds.
