After the American philosopher Paul Gay made a retrospective of the origins of Britain by modern aesthetics, he proposed that the key to the birth of modern aesthetics lies in “the concept of freedom of imagination.” The essence of this argument lies in that it extends the meaning of the free game of the sensual individual at the level of aesthetic modernity from the context of British history of ideas. In fact, the modern aesthetics represented by Kant in the 18th century was also greatly influenced by French Rousseau’s thought. At the same time, more realistic background emerged in modern society. This point of view presents the social imagination of individuals in aesthetic commonality. As a result, the social imagination caused by modern aesthetics, in addition to the individual ethics freely imagined in “Perceptualism,” actually hides the community ethics of “communication study” and communication imaginations.
