Dispersoids in Al-Si alloy via the high pressure solution and natural aging

Al-7 wt% Si ahoy was treated by the high pressure solution (2 GPa) and natural aging, and precipitation behavior of the dispersoids in the alloy was investigated through TEM to provide a possible formation mechanism of Si in Al-Si alloys.It is found that the nano-scale dispersoids mainly exhibit both plate-like and near-spherical morphologies and present a variety of interior structure.Based on the detailed observations on the interior structure of the dispersoids with different scale, the precipitation behavior of those dispersoids could be described.Some Si atoms firstly precipitate from Al matrix and form the multilayered coherent structure parallel to {001}Al, and subsequently develop to semi-coherent precipitates.Finally, those precipitates further transform to Si precipitates with diamond structure and incoherent with Al matrix.
