The Fungarium, Institute of Microbiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (HMAS, also as Herbarium Mycologicum Academiae Sinicae) was found in 1953, aiming at the collection and preservation of fungal materials.Currently, over 480,000 fungal specimens are housed in HMAS.All the collections are now data-based with details of each specimen.Efforts have also been devoted to develop a collection of fungal DNA samples and a website (http://www.fungalinfo.net/) for Checklist of Fungi in China (a database for fungi recorded in China) and Fungal Names (a depository for registration of fungal names).
