The objective of this phase of our research was to generate items for a new instrument, the Quality of Prenatal Care Questionnaire (QPCQ) that took into account the perspectives of pregnant women and prenatal care providers.We recruited 40 women and 40 care provider from five Canadian cities to participate in semi-structured interviews.The interview guide was informed by Donabedians quality of care framework.The women were interviewed again after they had given birth to capture additional perspectives of quality care having experienced labour and delivery and the early postpartum period.Data were analyzed using open coding and comparative analysis techniques to capture the main dimensions of quality prenatal care.
