To analyze the colonization of the lesional sites of pityriasis versicolor (PV) in Chinese patients with Malassezia globosa, Malassezia restricta and Malassezia slooffiae by using a real-time PCR system.Scale samples were collected by applying a transparent dressing to lesional sites on PV patients.DNA was extracted from the dressing tape (culture-independent) and from the colonies cultivated from the dressing tape on modified Leeming and Notman agar (culture-dependent).
