  Engineering is an important content in university education.Nowadays, new engineering technologies come forth continuously, so fostering students self-learning ability becomes one of the main aims in university engineering education.This article presents a set of complete self-learning system which aims to improve university engineering students self-learning efficiency and to foster university students self-learning ability.The study is based on the theories of educational psychology and learning science, the basic conceptions and methods of the formal logic, the analysis of the characteristics of university engineering education and the observation of parts of university students self-learning practice.This system is designed to create a positive habitual thinking, i.e."learning application practice" model.Because the basic learning process contains these three steps, it ensures that the habitual thinking created is necessary and positive.This self-learning system is characterized by the programmed efficiency.
