  A solid acid catalyst SO4 2-/TiO2/Ce4+ were prepared by sol-gel method using tetrabutyl titanate as TiO2 precursor.The catalytic performance of SO42-/TiO2/Ce4+ for the synthesis of biodiesel from waste palmitic acid and methanol was investigated and compared with SO42-/TiO2 and SO42-/TiO2/La3+.The influences of reaction conditions on esterification efficiency were studied,the highest conversation of 95.85%was obtained under the following condition: catalysts loading amount were 5 wt.%,methanol to palmitic acid molar ratio 10:1 and reaction temperature 120°C for 1h.The stability of catalysts were studied and the conversion ratio was still above 60%after five times reusing of the catalyst SO42-/TiO2/Ce4+.The compositions of product were analyzed by GC-MS,after compared with national standard biodiesel and 0# diesel,the product shows well qualified performance as common fuel.
