The systematic field surveys conducted 20 years agoindicated that Xishuangbanna is one of the most orchid-rich areas in China (Tsi and Chen 1995). However, during the past 20 years, the land-use changed dramatically in the area, which may have had major impact on orchid diversity and conservation. To understand the effects of land-use change on orchid diversity and determine protection priorities, we conducted systematic field surveys for eight times, and then, using IUCN Red List categoriesand criteria, we assessed the endangermentstatus of all orchids in the area.
