Objective:To study the methods and value of arthroscopically assisted foot and ankle joint arthrodesis. Methods:From January 2001 to Jul. 2004, 13 cases of ankle joint and 8 cases talonavicular articulation arthrodesis be under took by arthroscopical assisted .There were males 15 and females 6.The fight side 12 and left side 9. The average age of patients was 41years ranging from 32-68 year . In this group traumatic osteoarthritis of ankle joint in 6 cases, Kashin-bek syndrome and degenerative osteoarthritis of ankle joint in 7 , talonavicular articulation osteoarthritis in 8. It is necessary to removal of osteophytes , scar tissue , osteochondral fragment , cartilage and bone grafting or internal fixation for the ankle and talonavicular articulation. Result All of the cases were available for followup from 6 to 38 months , the average time was 10 months. X-ray showed the fusion position healed.No pain and swelling, the walking function showing a significant improvement. Conclusion Arthroscopically assisted foot and ankle joint arthrodesis is not only effectively ,simply and safety ,less invasive and little painful after surgery , but also to keep the anatomic structure and profit healing ,the outlook shape is beautiful than open procedure.
