Oxidative and nitrosylative stress are thought to play important roles in the dysfunction and degeneration of dopaminergic neurons in substantia niagra pars compacta,a midbrain region critical for controlling motor planning and execution.Etiologically,chronic exposure to environmental toxins such as pesticides,fungicides,and herbicides are believed to be the source of these stress conditions.To determine how accumulation of SNO-proteins correlates with clinical symptoms and neuropathological hallmarks (presence of Lewy bodies) of PD,we carried out a proteomic analysis on the brain samples to identify novel SNO-proteins in disease conditions.
