Graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4),a metal-free semiconductor,is a promising new class of photocatalysts for water splitting driven by solar energy due to its advantageous properties of good thermal and chemical stability, large bandgap (2.7 eV) with band edges straddling water redox potentials, and easy preparation from simple liquid precusors.
