Chelidonium majus L.(greater celandine) is the only species of the tribe Chelidonieae of the Papaveraceae family.Chelidonine is the main alkaloid of greater celandine roots and makes up 80% of the total alkaloid content.Major alkaloids are: chelidonine, protopine, allocryptopine, chelerythrine, sanguinarine.They make up 60-80% of the total alkaloid content of the raw plant.The plant is for hundreds years well known due to its multiply biological activity, including anticancer, antiviral,antimicrobial effects.However, water-insolubility makes clinical administration of the constituents of the drug and its extract possible only in form of local or peroral administration.Alkaloids were made water soluble by a patented process.
