A simple route for preparing high performance anatase TiO2 nanocrystals for use in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) was studied. The anatase TiO2 nanocrystals were prepared by microwave-irradiation process in ionic liquid. Results show that the crystalline size of the TiO2 nanocrystals increases gradually from 4.6 nm to 7.0 nm with the increasing of reaction time, due to the occurrence of Ostwald ripening. For DSSCs, the TiO2 nanocrystals prepared by microwave-irradiation process were the suitable substitutes for the semiconductor materials in the photoanodes of DSSCs.
