Liquefaction of corn cob in ethylene glycol phenyl ether (EGPE) solvent was investigated at atmospherics pressure and 160-200℃ for 2.5 to 120 minutes. The liquefaction reaction kinetics was also studied. The liquefaction yield increased rapidly with the increase in reaction time. At the 180℃, 1.5% sulfuric acid, 50 minutes seems to be optimal. Effect of ratio of solvent to biomass on liquefaction was tested. The yield decreased with decreasing ratio of EGPE to corn cob. The results show that the yield of biocrude oil reached a maximum between 90%-92%, depending on thereaction time and the feedstock load.
