Objective:First,to develop an in vivo non-destructive technique of measuring the JRF that causes no disturbance to the joint, and (2) to determine the magnitude of the JRF at the end of lengthening and 5 weeks into the consolidation period.Second,to investigate whether tibial lengthening would cause damage to immature articular cartilage in both the distraction and consolidation phases.Summary of background data:Olney reported a knee JRF of 64 N based on a cadaver experiment where 25ram acute tibial lengthening was conducted.Nakamura reported damage to mature articular cartilage Those pathologic changes deteriorated within the 3 and 6 months after the completion of distraction.
