AIM Effects of Melothria maderaspatana dry fruit preparation on serum creatinine levels of patients of chronic kidney disease of unknown etiology (CKDu) in Sri Lanka were studied.METHODS Biopsy proven C KDu patients have recruited for the study.Single blinded randomized clinical trial was conducted.Subjects were in the blank end.Cases received the new treatment and control group received a matching placebo.Treatment was given for 60 d and serum creatinine levels were measured in every ten days.RESULTS Serum creatinine levels of cases were reduced significantly with compared to controls (P =0.003) over the time.Marked symptomatical improvement, especially lethargy, backache and headache has already been noted among cases.CONCLUSION These finding shows that M.maderaspatana dry fruit preparation reduced serum creatinine levels and showed beneficial effects on patient with CKDu.
