The genus Hantzschia Grunow belongs to the family Bacillariaceae Ehrenberg. It is difficult to diagnose, although some consider the genus to be a natural group, based on symmetry, cell division and internal proximal raphe ends.Hantzschia species are uncommon, usually found in small populations and only found in few samples in Xinjiang Province.
