Innovation is a major theme of any leaders agenda today CEOs, academics and mayors government leaders agree that driving innovation throughout their organizations in their business models, their operations, their employee populations-is the key to success in a rapidly changing marketplace. In fact, the pressure to innovate is heavy in order to establish and sustain competitive differentiation and institutional value or to make advances in addressing the worlds most pressing issues-from the current financial crisis, healthcare and globalization to energy efficiency and the environment.Using these open and ubiquitous technologies to integrate and to capture, share, analyze, and act on new information, they are creating a new kind of energy value chain.Throughout this integrated energy value chain, "intelligence" is built in--the ability to sense and respond-as a kind of "connective tissue" that brings together these billions of devices and delivers new value and insight across the utility company and its network of customers and stakeholders. The result is an enterprise that is incredibly flexible in responding to business, consumer and marketplace needs. The electricity industry will be able to achieve new levels of operational effectiveness to reach beyond efficiently managing generation or transmission or distribution to have the business management and operational visibility across these domains that spans fuel, transportation, supply management and the customer experience all woven together by intelligence that is, the true integrated energy value chain.
