  CDT-1 and CDT-2 are cellodextrin transporters cloned from Neurospora crassa.CDT-1 has shown good potentials in cellulose based chemical and biofuel productions in engineered Saccharomyces cerevisiae since the discovery.But still little was known about two proteins functions and regulations in N.crassa itself,especially CDT-2.In this study,we found that cdt-2 can be induced not only by Avicel and cellobiose,but also by xylan.Deletion of cdt-2 results in serious growth defects on xylan condition and the xylodextrin transport activity is significantly reduced in the cdt-2 mutant compared to wild type.The xylodextrin can also be transported by engineered S.cerevisiae carrying cdt-2.All the data supported that CDT-2 is a xylodextrin transporter besides having cellodextrin transportation activity.Furthermore,we show that the two CDT genes underlie different transcriptional regulations.XLR-1 is the major regulator of cdt-2,while cdt-1 is mainly regulated by CLR-1.Therefore,CDT-2 is an all-round transporter for both cellodextrin and xylodextrin,which plays an important role in both cellulose and hemicellulose degradation and utilization.This is the first time that xylodextrin transporter is identified in filamentous fungi,which may have high potential for chemical and biofuel productions using xylodextrin from hemicellulose.CDT-2 of Neurospora crassa is an all-round transporter for both cellodextrin and xylodextrin,revealing its high potential for the plant biomass degradation process and biofuel production
