Residual stresses in friction stir welded (FSWed) particle reinforced metal matrix composites (PRMMC) affect the dimensions, the shapes and the performances of the FSWed joints significantly.However, the residual stresses in PRMMC include the macroscopic and microscopic residual stresses, and the microscopic residual stress includes the elastic mismatch,thermal misfit and plastic misfit residual stresses.
