The "Biological Mapping and Monitoring Program-marine activities" directed by the Norwegian Directorate for Nature Management aims to map seafloor habitats and key species along the Norwegian coast. The great scallop Pecten maximus is one of the selected key species, being a valuable fishing resource and in areas of high density they represent a strong benthic-pelagic coupling. The mapping contributes to increase the knowledge about scallop habitats and their ecological role.
