Vigna radiate plant defensin 1 (VrD1),isolated from mung bean (Vigna radiata),is the first reported plant defensin exhibiting in vitro insecticidal activity against bruchid.The NMR solution structure and its implication in insecticidal activity of VrD1 will be reported.The root-mean-square deviation values are 0.51 ± 0.35 (A) and 1.23 ± 0.29 (A) for backbone and all heavy atoms,respectively.The structure of VrD1 consists of a 310 helix,an a-helix,and a triple-stranded anti-parallel β-sheet stabilized by four disulfide bonds,forming a typical cysteine-stabilized aβ motif.Among the known structured plant defensins,VrD1 is the first defensin with an additional 310 helix.
