Objective: In this study we evaluated the correlations between the maximum standardized uptake value (SUVmax) of colorectal carcinoma and expression of glucose transporter-1 (GLUT1) and Ki-67.Methods: Thirty-three patients who had colorectal carcinoma histologically proven by colonosigmoidoscope underwent 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) PET/CT examination before any treatment, and these patients underwent surgical resection within a week after PET/CT scans. The SUVmax of primary foci of colorectal carcinoma were measured from the axial sections of PET images. The expression of GLUT1 and Ki-67 in corresponding tumor tissues was analyzed by immunohistochemical methods and quantitatively recorded by integral optical density (IOD).The correlations between the SUVmax and the expression of GLUT1 and Ki-67 were evaluated. Results: There was a significant correlation between the SUVmax and the expression of Glutl in colorectal carcinoma (r=0.574, P=0.002); however, the correlation between the SUVmax and the expression of Ki67 was not found in colorectal carcinoma (r=-0.241, P=0.336).Conclusion: In colorectal carcinoma, the SUVmax of lesions may not correlate with the expression of Ki67, but correlate with the expression level of Glutl.
