An I2-promoted reaction has been developed for the synthesis of 2,3-dihydropyrroles from chalcones and N-substituted β-enaminones.The reaction proceeds in good to excellent yields in one step from 1.5 equiv of β-enaminones.to react with the chalcones under solvent-free conditions.The utility of this transformation has been highlighted by its use for the construction of 2,3-dihydropyrroles, which have been identified in natural products exhibiting important biological activities.1 They are also extremely versatile synthetic building blocks for the preparation of ftmctionalized pyrrolidines2 and pyrroles3.
