THEORETICAL & EXPERIMENTAL STUDY OF POWER LOSS IN HALF-CELL PV MODULES

  The power output of PV modules built with full cells or half cells is compared, bot theoretically and experimentally.The equivalent circuit of PV modules shows that the total series resistance of a PV module consists of several elements, such as the cell resistance, contact resistance,ribbon resistance, string connector resistance and cable resistance.Based on this simple model,the power loss is analyzed and the two modules configurations are compared.The theoretical analysis is then compared to experimental data.The results show that the difference in power output between half-cell modules and full-cell modules is mainly due to the power loss within the ribbons interconnecting the cells, while the power loss caused by other elements is quite similar for both configurations.The additional photo-generated current due to the light reflected by the white backsheet is also analyzed.The results of the theoretical calculation are in good agreement with the test results.
