Crevice corrosion is one of the most common localized attacks, which always occurs within the occlude regions or under shielded metal surfaces.Materials relying on passive surface films for corrosion resistance can be particularly vulnerable to this kind of corrosion. The issues on crevice corrosion of nuclear-grade materials have attracted more attention in recent years. In this study, crevice corrosion of nuclear-grade 304 stainless steel(304 SS)was investigated in 3.5 wt.%NaCl solution and high temperature water respectively.A multicrevice corrosion test assembly were used for the tests in 3.5 wt.%NaCl solution, based on the standard guide for crevice corrosion test,ASTM G48 at the temperature of 25,35,50 and 60℃ respectively. The results of potentiodynamic polarization curves indicate that the 304 SS were vulnerable by crevice corrosion among the temperature from 25 to 60℃.A self-made device was used for the tests in high temperature water. The present results indicated that the crevice corrosion tended to become more serious with increasing width and length of the crevice.
